Medeon Science Park is taking the next step in developing its incubator by appointing Thomas Unt as its new Incubator Manager. With extensive experience in business development, venture capital, and start-up support, he will help strengthen the incubator’s role as a leading environment for medtech innovation and entrepreneurship.
Over the past year, Medeon has strengthened its focus on medtech, and the next step is to further develop the incubator in the same direction. The long-term ambition is for the incubator to achieve excellence status, offering specialised business and development support that helps accelerate the growth of early-stage medtech companies. By focusing on high-quality innovations, Medeon aims to attract both industrial partnerships and venture capital investment to the region.
“Thomas combines a strong knowledge in the innovation system with a deep understanding of the realities faced by entrepreneurs. He also brings an energy and commitment that inspires those around him. I am very much looking forward to continuing the development of our incubator together with him,” says Malin Bornschein, CEO of Medeon Science Park.
As medtech companies often face significant challenges on their journey to commercialisation, Thomas’s expertise in investor relations, company building, and growth financing will further strengthen Medeon’s ability to support successful ventures.

“My first goal is to create an incubator that attracts high-quality companies. With the right portfolio of companies, Medeon will attract the right investor base and commercial partners. I look forward to helping companies develop strategies and business models that enable their products reach all the way to patients,” says Thomas.
The appointment comes at a time when Skåne, with Malmö at the forefront, continues to strengthen its position as a leading medtech hub. According to the Skåne Life Science Barometer 2026, 38 per cent of all life science employees in Skåne work in Malmö, while 59 per cent of the city’s life science companies operate within medtech. Over the past decade, Malmö’s life science cluster has grown faster than the national average and today includes around 160 companies and 2,900 employees.
“Medeon plays an important role as a knowledge hub for the life science sector in Malmö,” says Micael Nord, Director of Business Affairs at the City of Malmö. “Thomas Unt’s expertise is a valuable addition that strengthens Medeon’s ability to support the commercialisation of innovations within the incubator. His experience from major international projects will also contribute to Medeon’s development in a broader context.”
Thomas will officially assume his new role on 1 September. Throughout his career, he has been involved in several national and international EU-funded projects, including assignments for EIT Health. For the past ten years, he has held a number of key positions at SmiLe Venture Hub, including Vice President and Business Coach. During that time, he contributed to the development of the incubator and led work related to venture capital and investor relations. He also served as CEO of SmiLe Inject Capital.
Given the complementary strengths and focus areas of SmiLe and Medeon, the appointment also creates opportunities for closer collaboration between the two organisations. Such cooperation has the potential to further strengthen innovation and entrepreneurship across the life science sector in the region.
