SaliTect
SaliTect is a Malmö-based medtech startup developing an AI-driven, chairside saliva diagnostics platform for the early detection of periodontitis. The company aims to make periodontal assessment faster, non-invasive, and more accessible in routine dental care, enabling disease to be identified while prevention is still an option.
SaliTect’s platform is designed to combine a multi-electrode sensor cartridge, a compact analyser, and AI-powered digital decision support. Rather than relying on a single biomarker, the technology captures the broader electrochemical profile of a saliva sample and uses AI to interpret the resulting data. The platform is designed to provide a result within minutes at the dental chair, without laboratory logistics.
Founded by a team from Malmö University and Linköping University, SaliTect brings together expertise in biomedical laboratory science, analytical chemistry, artificial intelligence and machine learning, IoT, clinical periodontology, and interaction design. The company is currently developing and validating its technology, with a functional proof-of-concept prototype in a laboratory environment and a digital interface prototype in user testing. The AI model has been trained on synthetic data. A first set of clinical saliva samples has been collected under ethical approval, and evaluation on clinical data is pending.
Beyond periodontitis, SaliTect is developing its technology as an expandable diagnostic platform, with the potential to use the same analyser and AI engine with different cartridges and algorithms for additional health indications and other applications.
